Response of dwarfing rootstocks and spur types of apples to varied mulching systems - a 13-year evaluation

Response of dwarfing rootstocks and spur types of apples to varied mulching systems - a 13-year evaluation

Compact Fruit Tree 9: 9-14

Data are presented on cropping of the apple cvs Golden Delicious, Starking and Jonared on M.7 under mulches of whole or ground maize cobs or straw or without a mulch, and of the Red Delicious spur types Red Spur (on seedlings, M.7 and M.2), Miller Sturdee Spur (on MM.106 and MM.104), Starkspur Golden Delicious (on seedlings) and Golden Delicious (on MM.106). With the rootstock M.7 the mulched trees cropped more heavily than trees in bare soil, particularly those of Starking.
