Response of four corn hybrids to different plant densities and row spacings on Olivier soil

The grain yield of the four maize varieties was measured in three years at one site under three row spacings and four plant densities. Coker S48 produced its highest grain yield in 26.6-inch rows with 23 900 plants per acre and Funk's G4949 in 20.0-inch rows with 22 600 plants per acre, whereas Funk's G4761 and Pioneer Brand 3147 were relatively insensitive to row spacing except at the lowest density of 14 600 and 14 700 plants per acre, respectively.
