Response of glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase, lactate dehydrogenase, and aldolase in blood serum of cattle to transport stress

The activities of GOT, LDH and ALD were measured in blood samples taken from 35 cattle after transport. Samples were taken before transport, on arrival at the slaughter house, 4 and 8 h after transport, immediately before slaughter (20 or 26 h after transport) and after slaughter. Cattle were 18 months to 20 years old, distance travelled ranged from 15 to 49 km and experiments were carried out in January, May and June. Environmental temperatures ranged from 4 to 32 deg C.
