Response of hybrid maize (Zea mays, L.) to nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilization

In a field trial on a red calcareous clay-loam soil at Coimbatore, maize Deccan was given all combinations of 0, 60, 120 or 180 kg N/ha, 0, 15, 30 or 45 kg P/ha and 0, 30, 60 or 90 kg K/ha. 193 kg N/ha was the optimum rate and 182 kg N/ha the economic optimum; P and K did not increase grain yield.
