Response of lactating cows to abomasal infusions of casein, methionine and glucose

Response of lactating cows to abomasal infusions of casein, methionine and glucose

Proceedings of the New Zealand Society of Animal Production 37: 46-49

Nine low-yielding cows with abomasal cannulae were offered pasture or high-moisture silage from the pasture. In 5 experiments with cows on silage at 70 to 80% of voluntary intake, infusions of 300 g sodium caseinate daily significantly increased milk yield by 1.08 kg daily, protein by 0.15 percentage unit and increased protein yield by 20.9% above cows given saline.
