Response of maize seeds to different soaking periods in relation to alcohol dehydrogenase activity



SABRAO Journal 7(1): 37-43



An F2 population segregating for low and high levels of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity, and 75 inbred lines having different levels of ADH activity, were studied. The F2 population showed high tolerance of soaking, seeds with the lowest level of ADH activity being the most tolerant. A similar tendency was observed among the inbred lines, which differed significantly in their resistance to six and twelve days of soaking.
