Response of meat- and egg-type chickens to a high fiber diet

Response of meat- and egg-type chickens to a high fiber diet

Canadian Journal of Animal Science 54(4): 651-658

Chickens of both sexes, 500 each of a meat and a laying strain, got diets with fibre 19.6 or 7.7% in the last 6 weeks of the growing period, 12.4 or 6.2% during breeding period. The higher fibre content was reached by adding finely ground wheat straw in amounts increasing over 2 weeks to 40% of otherwise normal growing diet then 20% of breeder diet.
