Response of ovine pancreatic amylase to elevated blood glucose

Response of ovine pancreatic amylase to elevated blood glucose

Journal of Animal Science 41(6): 1717-1721

In wethers with re-entrant cannulae of the common bile duct, combined biliary and pancreatic secretions were collected and assayed for amylase activity by a starch-iodine procedure before and after single intravenous injections of glucose or intravenous infusion of glucose for 3 h of each 12 for 3 or 7 days. Single injections containing 5 to 8 g glucose or infusion of 0.5 ml/min of 8% glucose failed to alter amylase secretion significantly.
