Response of pineapples (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) to different NPK fertilizer rates in Sierra Leone

The response of a 40 kg N, 47 kg P2O5 and 36 kg K2O fertilizer mixture applied to Smooth Cayenne pineapples at the rate of 0, 57, 85, 114 or 170 g/plant 2, 4, 6, 11 and 12 months after planting was studied. The 57 g/plant mixture was the most profitable, and compared with the control shortened the period from planting to flowering and harvesting by 27 and 30 days, respectively, increased the average weight/fruit from 2.07 to 2.58 kg and the mean fruit yield from 40.40 to 50.39 t/ha.
