Response of plant fruiting to hydrogen fluoride fumigation

Crop plants were exposed to various concentrations of HF in growth chambers and fruiting was evaluated. Soyabean Harosoy produced almost no seeds under continuous exposure to HF at 0.64 mu g F/m3 whereas cotton Acala 4-42 showed no apparent effects at 8.0 mu g F/m3. Sweet corn Marcross, pea Alaska, sorghum RS 625, oats Cody, wheat Marfed and barley Unitan, in order of decreasing sensitivity of fruiting to HF, ranked between soyabean and cotton.
