Response of reduced alkaloid Burley genotypes to nitrogen fertilization

In field trials at Lexington, Kentucky in 1972-3, tobacco Burley 21, Ky 14 and 3 reduced-alkaloid Burley cultivars were treated with 100, 200, 300 or 400 lb N/ac as NH4HO3. Cured-leaf yields of the 3 reduced-alkaloid Burley cultivars were lower than both Burley 21 and Ky 14. Average yields were increased by applied N from 2030 lb/ac with no N to 2672 lb with 400 lb N/ac.
