Response of seven rice varieties to rate and timing of nitrogen fertilizer in Arkansas

0-160 lb N/ac was applied to rice Bluebelle, Bonnet 73, Starbonnet, Nortai, Brazos, Lebonnet and LA 110 at 3 locations in Arkansas in 1971-5. Bonnet 73 and Starbonnet produced max. grain yields with 100 lb N/ac, Lebonnet, LA 110 Brazos and Bluebelle with 120 lb N/ac and Nortai with 150 lb N/ac. The new Nortai, Brazos and LA 110 produced high max. grain yields of 6180-6860, 7100-7850 and 8180-8970 lb/ac, resp. However, LA 110 produced chalky grain.
