Response of six soybean varieties to phosphatic fertilizer at Wadi Jizan region (Saudi Arabia)

In a field trial in 1974-5, soyabean Hampton 266A, Lee, Bragg, Tracy, Hutton and Dare were given a basal dressing of 25 kg N + 40 kg P2O5 + 25 kg K2O/feddan before sowing and 0, 50, 75 or 100 kg P2O5/feddan 3 weeks after sowing. P application increased plant height and number of pods/plant but decreased number of days from sowing to flowering and maturity. Tracy was the earliest and Lee the latest to flower. Bragg given P produced the highest number of pods (average 34.8 pods/plant).
