In trials in 1972-4 with the spring wheat Khar'kovskaya and Saratovskaya 29 on chernozem soil under dryland conditions in Altai province, S. Siberia, application of 15 kg P2O5/ha to rows at sowing increased average grain yields by 180-270 kg/ha after bare fallow and by 230-300 kg/ha after maize for silage from 2.03-2.06 t/ha without P; addition of 10 kg N/ha to P gave no further significant yield increases.
