The cane Co.419 was fertilized with N at 280 kg/ha as ammonium sulphate or with half this quantity together with the incorporation 100 days after planting of Crotalaria juncea, Sesbania sp. or Phaseolus sp. grown as an intercrop, or Gliricidia leaves obtained elsewhere.
