Fluorescence of the epidermal cells of cotyledons of Lupinus albus treated with acridine orange varied during germination. Changes in fluorescence during the 1st 46 h of imbibition were thought to be a result of the elimination of associations between macromolecular substances and flavones already present in the cell. That chloroplasts of stomata during formation do not show red fluorescence was thought to be due to extinction due to acridine orange and incompletely formed flavones.
