Abstract
A second cycle of selection was carried out using synthetic populations composed of ten single hybrids obtained by crossing the best cycle I lines of Gloriya Yanetskogo [Yanetskii's Glory] and 16 single hybrids obtained by crossing the best lines of VIR1094. New improved cycle II lines were obtained which outyielded the cycle I lines of Gloriya Yanetskogo by 38% and of VIR1094 by 16%. The yield of the synthetic populations rose by more than 20% after the second cycle. Single hybrids obtained using the cycle II lines outyielded double hybrids using cycle I lines by 14%.
