Yu-sin is a new variety, selected from IR667, a sister line of the widely grown Tong-il and IR1317. It is a short, indica, ear-weight type like Tong-il. It has better quality than this variety with virtually no incidence of white belly or white core and is adapted to late planting as a second crop. Two varieties were registered in 1975, Milyang 21, an early variety, and Milyang 23, a midlate variety.
