A ligature round the body at the junction of the thorax and abdomen of the house-fly was shown to block effectively the flow of haemolymph between the abdomen and the rest of the body, but it did not prevent the toxic action of certain contact insecticides. These were dieldrin, gamma -BHC, tetrachlorvinphos, pyrethrum extract, methomyl and p,p'-DDT.
