Rotaviral enteritis in turkey poults

An enteritis is reported in 10 turkey flocks in poults 12-21 days old at the onset of the disease. Signs on the first day were restlessness, litter eating, and watery droppings. Increased mortality occurred on the second day and continued for 5-6 days, when the poults suddenly returned to normal in behaviour and appearance. The caeca, colon and cloaca were distended with yellowish fluid. Histologically there were degenerative and inflammatory changes in the villi of the duodenum and jejunum.
