Sawing logs with sweep

Sawing logs with sweep

Meddelelse, Norsk Treteknisk Institutt (57): 54

In an investigation based on approx. 250 spruce logs with a sweep of 3-5 cm and top diam. 17-23 cm, use of an automatic infeed centering device increased lumber recovery by 3.5-4.0% on circular double slabber sawlines and by 1-4% on a frame sawline. The bow of green battens produced by circular sawing employing the crook sawing technique was 5-9 mm/m or 55-90% of the sweep of the logs; this value decreased by 30-55% after drying and storage for 1-1.5 months.
