Seasonal variation in litter size, body weight and sexual maturation in juvenile female house mice

Seasonal variation in litter size, body weight and sexual maturation in juvenile female house mice

Laboratory Animals 11(3): 159-162

Over a 4-yr period, season had a significant effect on the proportion of mated females bearing litters, litter size and live weight of female progeny at 21 days of age, all of which were greater in spring and summer than in autumn and winter. However, young females attained sexual maturity, as indicated by vaginal smears, earlier during winter than in other seasons.
