In trials with several spring wheat cultivars, subjecting plants grown under normal water supply or high soil-moisture deficit to a temperature of 42 deg C for 5 h at the shooting and flowering stages changed the fractional composition of water, water deficit, pigment contents, activity of RNase and formation of ears, the effects being more pronounced in plants under normal water supply.
