Statistical comparison of the angles of main ribs in the leaves and leaf remnants of Platanus acerifolia (Ait.) Willd. and Platanus aceroides (Goepp.). Heer (fossil)

The angles of the main leaf veins of Hungarian samples of P. acerifolia were similar to those of Tertiary (Sarmatian) P. aceroides, and it is concluded that the former is therefore more likely to be a relict than to be a hybrid between P. occidentalis and P. orientalis.
