In field trials with a double cropping of rice and barley, application of P to barley gave earlier earing and greater dry wt., root growth, leaf area, chlorophyll content and panicle number whether or not P was applied to the preceding rice crop. Application of P to barley increased grain yields by up to 25% but application of P to rice gave no response in barley.
