Studies on lipids in royal jelly. 2. On the sterol in royal jelly, worker jelly, worker larva and pollen

Cholesterol, 24-methylenecholesterol, and stigmastanol were detected by gas chromatography in royal jelly, brood food and worker honeybee larvae. Stigmastanol, DELTA 7-stigmasten-3 beta -ol, and small quantities of 24-methylenecholesterol were found in pollen. The authors presume that DELTA 7-stigmasten-3 beta -ol was converted by the bees to cholesterol. (Chem. Abstr. 82: 70417h (1975).)F.
