Studies on mixture sowing of warm season annual forage crops. 1. The effect of sowing rate on the yield of several mixed forage crops



Journal of Japanese Society of Grassland Science 20(3): 113-118



Echinochloa frumentacea, Eleusine coracana, Chloris gayana and Panicum coloratum were grown as fodder crops either alone or in mixtures of 2 species. Yields when grown alone decreased in the order E. coracana>C. gayana>E. frumentacea>P. coloratum and yields of mixtures were intermediate between those of the components of the mixture. Each species showed its own seasonal growth pattern when grown in mixtures.
