Studies on reduction in growth vigour in advanced generations of maize-teosinte hybrids

Studies on reduction in growth vigour in advanced generations of maize-teosinte hybrids

Pakistan Journal of Agricultural Sciences 9(1/4): 95-101

An F1 hybrid of a local yellow maize variety and Euchlaena mexicana was taller and had a higher dry weight and a greater number of leaves than the maize parent, but tillered less and had fewer leaves than E. mexicana. The maize X E. mexicana F1 hybrid had greater stem thickness, dry weight, leaf area and height than that of its reciprocal, but had fewer tillers and leaves.
