Studies on the storage temperature of tomato fruits. IV. Ethylene production by tomato fruits at various temperatures and the effects of ethylene treatment on the fruit

Nippon Nogeikagaku Kaishi 50(11): 519-523

Fruits harvested at the mature green stage were stored at different temperatures. At room temperature a marked increase in ethylene preceded the respiratory climacteric. At 33 deg C respiration rate progressively declined and ethylene production was greatly reduced, but on transfer to room temperature ethylene production rose to half the level observed in fruit stored at room temperature throughout.
