Sugarcane and nematodes in South Africa

Sugarcane and nematodes in South Africa

Nematological Society of Southern Africa Newsletter 7: 7-8

The 12 nematode genera most commonly found in the sugarcane soils of South Africa are listed. In glasshouse tests root damage to sugarcane has been demonstrated with Meloidogyne javanica, Pratylenchus zeae, Criconemoides sphaerocephalum, Tylenchorhynchus near martini, Hemicycliophora labiata, Xiphinema elongatum, Trichodorus christiei and spiral nematodes.
