Revisions are suggested for two recently proposed schemes for the classification of Ciliophora which took into account new ultrastructural characteristics. Characterizations are offered, for the first time, for all of the suprafamilial taxa included in the new classification: the phylum and its three classes, seven subclasses, 23 orders, and 31 suborders.
