Testing progenies of geographical and altitudinal populations of Beech

Testing progenies of geographical and altitudinal populations of Beech

Lesnoe Khozyaistvo (6): 40-43

Seeds were collected from stands at various altitudes in the main parts of the natural range of Fagus orientalis in the Caucasus. Data are presented on % germination, and on the heights of the 1-year seedlings, for progenies of some 30 different parent stands. The preliminary results are discussed, and it is concluded that it is important to use seed from appropriate altitudinal zones.
