The benefits of breeding, hybrid maize. A cost/benefit analysis of maize breeding in the Swiss Agricultural Research Station, 1952-1980

Schweizerische Landwirtschaftliche Forschung 15(1/2): 1-84

Maize production in Switzerland has increased from 3,660 ha. in 1960 to an estimated 43,700 ha. in 1975. Further increases are expected in future. The reason for this rapid expansion is the higher yields that can be achieved with hybrid varieties.
