The components of arthropod predation. II. The predator rate of increase

The components of arthropod predation. II. The predator rate of increase

Journal of Animal Ecology 45(1): 165-185

In this further paper in a series (cf. preceding abstract), it is suggested that the death rate imposed by a predator population on a prey population is linked to the rate at which individual predators locate and consume prey, and hence to the rate of increase of the predator population. It is argued that the overall rate of increase will depend on three main components: the duration of each predator instar, survival rates within instars, and the fecundity of the adults.
