The contribution of horticulture to the export receipts of developing countries - situation and outlook

Gartenbauwissenschaft 40(1): 40-47

Horticultural exports of developing countries in the early 1970s were valued at about $2,000 million (10% of agricultural exports, 3.3% of total exports). The most important products in world trade were citrus fruits and bananas, of which only one-third came from developing countries. The problems and prospects of world trade in both products are examined: increased competition because of rising supplies at falling prices; loosening of traditional trade connections through economic regrouping.
