The ecology of Frontopsylla frontalis baikal Ioff, 1946 (Siphonaptera) in Gorno Altai

The ecology of Frontopsylla frontalis baikal Ioff, 1946 (Siphonaptera) in Gorno Altai

Doklady Irkutskogo Protivochumnogo Instituta (10): 230-233

Frontopsylla frontalis baikal Ioff is widespread in Siberian plague foci in the Soviet Union, infesting both birds and mammals, and plague microbes (Yersinia pestis) have occasionally been isolated from it. In 1969-1971, a survey was made in the plague area of the Sailyugam ridge of Gorno Altai. In this area, it infests rodents and their mammalian predators, but the main host is a wheatear (Oenanthe sp.), which nests in rodent burrows, and it is in the nests that the fleas breed.
