The effect of crossbreeding Busa with Charolais cattle on meat production and quality

25 Busa cows were inseminated with Charolais semen. Calf birth weight averaged 28 kg, and body weight at 3 mth of age 115 kg. After approx. 10 mth of fattening, body weight averaged 389 kg for males and 341 kg for females. Corresponding figures for Busa controls fattened from 130 kg body weight were 408 and 277 kg. Crossbred bulls surpassed all other groups in dressing percentage, eye-muscle area, the percentage of meat in the eye-muscle, and protein percentage of meat.
