The effect of depth of ploughing and fertilizer on the biological activity of a chernozem (at Fundulea)

Data from a four year rotation of soya bean, wheat + beans, maize and sugar beet with three rates of fertilizers and manures, and three depths of ploughing showed that after six years of ploughing at the depth of 35 cm both dehydrogenase and saccharase activity and total C and mobile P content were significantly decreased compared with ploughing at 15 cm. Application of inorganic fertilizers reduced the C content and dehydrogenase and saccharase activities of the soil.
