The effect of different herbicides and application dates on weed control and yield in some important apple cultivars

In an orchard of young Golden Delicious and Starking trees on M.4 rootstocks trained as palmettes, Caragard 3587 (terbumeton 25 + terbuthylazine 25) at 10 or 15 kg/ha and Gardoprim 80 (terbuthylazine) + ATA (aminotriazole) at 10 + 8 kg/ha were applied in the spring (March-April) or after harvest. Caragard 3587 at 15 kg/ha applied in the spring gave the best general weed control, the greatest increase in trunk circumference and the highest yields.
