The effect of drinking patterns on enzyme screening tests for alcoholism

The effect of drinking patterns on enzyme screening tests for alcoholism

Practitioner 219(1310): 243-245

Serum gamma -glutamyl transpeptidase, aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase were measured in 2 groups of alcoholics, 24 bout drinkers and 44 daily drinkers. The daily drinkers had a higher incidence of abnormal results for all enzyme tests than the bout drinkers; differences were significant for gamma -glutamyl transpeptidase and probably significant for aspartate aminotransferase.
