The effect of energy-yielding feed on fertility of cows. 1. Changes of glucose concentration in the blood of cows during service period

Data were obtained on cows from 2 herds given different diets during winter. 21 cows that had calved in Jan. were considered from each herd. The diet was based on maize silage and hay for the 1st herd, and on grass silage and hay for the 2nd. In summer, cows from the 1st herd were housed indoors and fed green fodder, and cows from the 2nd herd were grazed. For the 2 groups resp., postpartum insemination interval averaged 78 and 55 days, and service period 114 and 95 days.
