The effect of environmental temperature and sodium intake on 22Na retention

The effect of environmental temperature and sodium intake on 22Na retention

Poultry Science 54(2): 624-625

From 3 weeks old 60 broiler chickens were kept at 8 deg or 30 deg C for 3 weeks; 20 from each group were given a normal diet with 0.4% NaCl and 10 were given a diet deficient in Na. At the end of the 3 weeks they were given 0.2 mu Ci 22Na. Retention of 22Na was significantly greater in chickens on the normal diet kept at 30 deg than in those at 8 deg. Those on the normal diet retained significantly less 22Na than those on the deficient diet.
