The effect of feeding chemically preserved wheat grain to hens suffering from ascaridiasis

The effect of feeding chemically preserved wheat grain to hens suffering from ascaridiasis

Zeszyty Naukowe Akademii Rolniczo Technicznej w Olsztynie, Weterinaria 7: 79-92

Groups of 35 Leghorn chickens aged 10 weeks and infected with Ascaridia were fed a daily ration of 100 g wheat which had been treated with propionic acid (alone or with formic acid in a ratio of 1:1 or 1:3) in a concentration equal to 0.88% of grain weight. Controls received untreated grain. The birds were examined fortnightly and were autopsied on week 13. It was found that the treated grain increased losses due to Ascaridia.
