The effect of fertilising and irrigation of maize on protein and inclusion of late-dressed nitrogen in the grain

Basal dressing and irrigation during the growth period increased grain protein content. Leaf spraying had a greater effect than N placement. In plants well supplied with N but with insufficient moisture, N applied as a late dressing accumulated mainly in the zein fraction.
