The effect of glucagon on pentagastrin or histamine stimulated pepsin secretion in duodenal ulcer patients

The effect of glucagon on pentagastrin or histamine stimulated pepsin secretion in duodenal ulcer patients

Acta Medica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae 34(1/2): 11-17

The effect of glucagon on histamine- and pentagastrin-stimulated pepsin secretion was studied. The inhibitory effect of glucagon was more marked in healthy subjects than in patients with duodenal ulcer. In patients stimulated with a maximum dose of pentagastrin, pepsin secretion was less inhibited by glucagon than in the control group. The pepsin:HCl ratio fell after glucagon in healthy subjects stimulated with pentagastrin, but there was no change in the patients.
