Groups of 10 weanling rats weighing initially 70 g were given a basal diet containing casein 9% without or with L-methionine 2.5%, glycine 2.5%, methionine 2.5 and glycine 2.5%, L-leucine 2.5%, leucine 2.5 and methionine 2.5%, L-alanine 2.5 or alanine 2.5 and leucine 2.5%. After 7 days the rats were killed and the liver was removed. The activities of L-serine dehydratase and homoserine dehydratase in the liver rose when methionine was added to the diet.
