The effect of rates and times of sowing on the first year's yield of three red clover varieties and their mixtures

In trials at two sites between 1972 and 1974, the diploid Trifolium pratense varieties Jicinska and Chlumecka produced their best yields when sown at low densities (10 and 13.4 kg/ha) late in the spring, while high-density sowing (21 and 30 kg/ha) earlier in the spring suited a newly bred tetraploid variety better. Best mean yields of Jicinska and the tetraploid were very similar and that of Chlumecka about 4% less.
