3 Holstein-Friesian cows were fed 9.3, 11.2 or 13.0 kg grain and 2.8 kg cubed lucerne daily + either maize silage (MS) or pineapple greenchop (PGC) fed ad lib. Cows fed MS yielded more 4% FCM than cows fed PGC during the 24-wk comparison period (23.3 vs. 21.2 kg/day). Milk yield was higher on the intermediate grain level than on the high or low levels. Fat content was not affected by roughage type but was lower for cows fed high grain (3.18 vs. 3.53% for the other groups, P < 0.05).
