The effect of stage of lactation on let down time, milking time, milk yield, average flow rate and milk composition in buffaloes

The 15 Murrah buffaloes aged 6 to 10 years were in early (47 days), middle (99 days) or late (241 days) lactation. They got concentrate 1 kg daily and another 1 kg/2 kg milk yield, with roughage freely. They were hand-milked morning and evening by the same person for 15 days; none had an unweaned calf. On average for all 15 days, for the 3 groups in the order given, mean daily let-down time was 94.9, 98.6 and 135 s and time required for milking was 429, 373 and 321 s.
