The effect of summer pruning, fruit thinning, time of harvesting and spraying with calcium nitrate on the incidence of bitter pit and internal breakdown in Cox's Orange Pippin apples

The effect of summer pruning, fruit thinning, time of harvesting and spraying with calcium nitrate on the incidence of bitter pit and internal breakdown in Cox's Orange Pippin apples

Rapport Instituut voor Bodemvruchtbaarheid (7-74): 54

The effects of treatments on leaf and fruit composition, yields and fruit size are reported. Very little bitter pit occurred on any plots in the trial. Fruits on sprayed trees had no bitter pit and little internal breakdown. Summer pruning and late picking also reduced both disorders whereas thinning increased breakdown.
